Kendra Young

Meet Kendra

Kendra joined Davis Groves Educational Services in early 2024 after spending years as a journalist, teacher, and college consultant. Her first student mentoring job began at Texas A&M University, where she majored in journalism and was editor-in-chief of The Battalion, the school’s daily student newspaper. After studying abroad in Spain, Kendra then interned at CNN Headline News and earned a master’s in management from the Mays School of Business. From there, she worked in magazines and newspapers, taught SAT prep for The Princeton Review, and was on staff at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) as a writing and design instructor. That experience, along with her training through the Heart of Texas Writing Project, gave her valuable insight into guiding students through the writing process. Her goal was – and still is – to help students see themselves as storytellers with valuable messages to share, and to teach lifelong writing skills that can be applied far beyond a given assignment.

Kendra is a member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and has hosted college application and essay workshops throughout Central Texas. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling (and always includes tours of the area universities), volunteering as a reading specialist at her children’s elementary school, and freelance writing.

Working as an independent educational consultant has been the perfect cross-section of Kendra’s professional experiences, and she would love to work with your student throughout the college process.
